Also used
Geosatellite 1.4, the whole-Earth infrared frame shown on the satellite view. The imagery originates with EUMETSAT and is free and unrestricted under their data policy.
Changes
Yes. Their symbol codes are reworded into English, temperatures are converted to Fahrenheit when a reader asks for it, and the hourly series is reduced to a current reading and seven daily highs and lows. The satellite frame is downscaled and re-encoded as a JPEG so a page can carry it; nothing in it is altered.

NOAA National Weather Service

Public domain. No license and no attribution is required; we name them because their terms forbid presenting their material as our own.
Changes
Yes. Fahrenheit is converted to Celsius when a reader asks for it, wind speed is converted from miles per hour, and their forecast prose is shortened in the five-day strip.
Also used
GOES-East and GOES-West imagery, from NOAA NESDIS STAR, for the Americas and Asia-Pacific frames on the satellite view.

Yes. Names are folded to lowercase without accents for lookup, and only the name, region, country, coordinate and population are used.

Why local
It is held on our own server. Sending every place a reader types to a geocoding service would leak more than the forecast call it is meant to protect.

News publishers Pending

AreaGram reads sixty publisher feeds, each polled directly by us. When it ships, every one will be listed here with its region and the time it last answered, so a gap in a region can be told apart from a feed that quietly broke. AreaGram is not built yet, so the list is not published yet.
